FICTION VS. FACT REGARDING LUNCH STATUS
MYTH – NOT TRUE | FACT - TRUE |
Parents can only apply for free/reduced lunch status at the beginning of the school year. | Parents can apply for free/reduced lunch status at ANY time throughout the school year! |
Students will have a different card, tray, serving, etc. if they are placed on free/reduced lunch status. | All students have EXACTLY the same card, tray, and serving size regardless of their lunch status. |
Teachers and students will know my child’s lunch status. | Lunch status is confidential at ALL times. Teachers do not have access to a child’s lunch status. The process is completely confidential. |
I don’t understand what financial information is needed so I won’t apply. | Staff will help you complete the application if you are not sure how to answer questions. |
Our school loses money if we have too many families qualify for free and reduced lunches. | The Marceline R-V School District receives federal funding based on the # of students who qualify for free and reduced lunches. By qualifying, you are helping our school! |
My family won’t ever qualify even though our income changes from month to month. | Parents can qualify for free and reduced status based on weekly, monthly, OR annual income. For example, a family with a household size of 4 could qualify if their weekly household income falls at or below $917. |
Marceline Public Schools provides free/reduced price meals for eligible schoolchildren unable to pay the full price of meals under the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast program. If a family member becomes unemployed or if family size changes after filing your application, a new application will need to be filed.
- Each R-V family will receive another application to apply on Monday, February 3rd
- Additional applications are available in each school office and the school website.
